The material you choose changes how your portrait feels in a room. Canvas brings a woven surface and depth on the wall. Fine art paper gives you a matte print to frame in your own way.

Amber portraits begin as artwork created digitally from your photographs. Physical orders are produced through our printing partner’s network. The oil-style brushwork is part of the image; the material beneath it adds its own surface and structure.

Your chosen artwork comes first

Review the likeness, expression and composition in your free preview before ordering. You can request changes and choose the version you want to keep.

After payment, we prepare the high-resolution artwork. Our team checks physical orders before printing. Fine details can change during preparation; contact us if your finished artwork does not match the version you chose. Our delivery and artwork preparation guide explains this process.

The room images and interactive previews help illustrate a finish. Lighting, screens and real materials can affect how colour appears. The artwork you choose and the product details confirmed at checkout define what you should receive.

Canvas adds a real woven surface

Our current canvas selection uses our printing partner’s Slim format. The printed fabric is stretched over an internal wooden support, giving the piece depth even when you choose the unframed option.

Our printing partner describes its canvas material as a cotton–polyester blend weighing approximately 300–350 gsm. This is the supplier’s published approximate range.

The fabric weave is a physical texture you can see on the finished piece. The oil-style brushwork is reproduced in ink as part of the image.

Your artwork continues around the sides of the canvas. Those sides form part of the display, so a stretched canvas can be hung with or without an outer frame. Our canvas and paper comparison shows how those choices differ.

A floating frame surrounds the stretched canvas

Choosing black, natural wood or dark wood adds an outer frame around the canvas, with space between the fabric-covered sides and the frame. The internal support remains part of the canvas itself.

Our printing partner specifies pine or poplar for its canvas frames. Natural wood can show grain and colour variation. Frame profiles and finishes can also differ by product and region, so an illustrative preview cannot show every variation.

Both framed and unframed Amber canvas orders include a hanging kit. Follow the instructions supplied with your piece when preparing it for display.

If you are choosing a portrait for a narrow wall or an existing arrangement, allow for the extra width and height of the outer frame. The artwork dimensions alone do not describe the full framed piece.

Fine art paper has a matte finish

Our current paper option uses 200 gsm enhanced, uncoated stock. It has a smooth matte finish and comes unframed or ready to hang in a black, white, natural wood or dark wood frame. The framed option is assembled with clear protective glazing and no mat; the frame overlaps the paper edge slightly. Either option includes a digital copy. Our current format guide compares paper with our canvas options.

Our printing partner’s Fine Art printing uses a 12-colour giclée process. Giclée is a form of inkjet printing used to reproduce artwork with detailed tonal transitions. This Fine Art range is distinct from its standard poster papers.

Paper lets you select your own frame, mat and protective glazing. Include those items when comparing the cost of the finished display. If you already own a frame, check both its accepted print dimensions and the opening in any mat before ordering.

Check the dimensions for your destination

Available sizes depend on your delivery country. Regional inch and centimetre formats can differ slightly, so use the dimensions shown for your selected destination.

The listed artwork size describes the face of the print. An outer canvas frame increases the overall dimensions; a frame and mat purchased for a paper print will also change its display size. Our portrait size guide explains what to measure before you choose.

Production follows the product and destination

Our printing partner routes orders through its production network, aiming to make them close to their destination whenever possible. The chosen product, stock and production capacity can affect where an order is made. Some pieces are produced in another country, as explained in its local production guide.

Amber remains your contact for the order. Our delivery policy explains delivery estimates and tracking information for your destination.

Care for the material you choose

For canvas, our printing partner recommends keeping the piece away from prolonged direct sunlight and dusting it with a soft, dry cloth. Water and cleaning solutions should not be used on the printed canvas. These are the care instructions for its framed canvas.

For paper, consider protective framing and a display position away from sunlight, damp and heat sources. Handle the print as little as possible while arranging its frame. The Canadian Conservation Institute’s guidance for art on paper explains how light, humidity and handling can affect a print.

If the surface has a mark or damage, contact us before attempting to clean or repair it.

Your print also includes a digital copy

Every physical order includes a high-resolution, watermark-free JPEG of your purchased artwork. We email you when it is ready to download from your order page. The separate digital-only product has a minimum resolution of 30 megapixels; that minimum is specific to the standalone purchase. See the file details before arranging printing elsewhere.

Amber also provides a limited lifetime warranty for physical portraits. It covers fading, peeling and warping during normal indoor display and care, subject to the full terms. Covered replacements include production and delivery at no charge. This warranty is provided by Amber Portraits.
