A little clarity
Cookie policy
How essential cookies, optional analytics and advertising measurement work—and how to manage your settings.
Last updated September 30, 2026
At a glance
- Some cookies are needed to keep you signed in, remember your portraits and help you place an order.
- Optional analytics and advertising measurement default to on outside the European Economic Area (EEA). In the EEA, or if your region is unknown, they remain off until you accept. Your saved choices take priority.
- We do not display ads or personalise advertising. You can change your choice at any time in Cookie settings.
The full policy below applies alongside your mandatory legal rights.
Cookies needed for the site to work
We use necessary cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in, protect your session, let you return to portraits and orders, and remember choices such as your selected preview and delivery country. These also help you use the service without an account.
Your saved selection remains valid for 180 days. Once it expires, the settings for your region apply. A new prompt appears in regions where optional tools are disabled by default. If your browser cannot save your choice, regional defaults apply on your next visit. Other necessary cookies last for your session or as needed for their purpose; some saved preferences remain until you or the site clear them.
Necessary functions work whether you accept or reject optional analytics. You can block cookies in your browser settings, but doing so may prevent sign-in or interrupt access to your portraits and orders.
Payment and sign-in providers may use their own cookies when you use their services. Their privacy notices explain those uses; our Cookie settings manage optional analytics and advertising measurement on this site.
Optional analytics
When analytics is enabled, we use Google Analytics 4 and PostHog to understand which pages people visit, how they create portraits and place orders, and where they run into problems. These tools follow your saved preferences or the regional defaults described above. Rejecting them does not affect portrait creation, sign-in or purchases.
Analytics may include pages visited, actions such as creating a preview or requesting a download, device information, product choices, purchase and refund amounts, currency, and error reports with personal details removed. Random browser and visit identifiers help us connect related activity without using your name or email address.
Your uploaded photos, artwork, editing instructions, email address, payment-card details and private access links are not included. We do not display ads on this site or use personalised advertising tracking. Advertising measurement is a separate optional choice, described below.
When analytics is enabled, we may link a purchase to the visit that led to it, including to measure completed payments and refunds when you do not return to the site.
Optional advertising measurement
This separate choice lets us understand which Google ads lead to purchases. When enabled, we also load the Google Ads tag for advertising measurement; it may use advertising cookies such as _gcl_ cookies. Personalised advertising remains disabled. When enabled, we save a Google click identifier in local storage (amber-ad-click-v1) for up to 30 days. The browser tag may report a verified purchase when you return to the order page. Our separate server-side purchase attribution requires a valid saved click identifier.
When you check out, we associate the identifier and the enabled advertising setting with that order. Only a confirmed real payment can be sent to Google Ads, with its time, amount, currency and a random transaction reference. The same reference prevents repeated purchase counting within the same conversion action. Full refunds may restate the value to zero; this does not necessarily remove the conversion count.
We do not upload names, email addresses, phone numbers, photos, artwork or portrait instructions for this purpose. Personalised advertising is disabled. The advertising setting is independent of optional analytics and is saved for up to 180 days, whether enabled by your choice or the regional default; click and order linkage is retained for no more than 30 days after the click was captured.
Turning this choice off clears accessible Google advertising cookies, removes our saved click identifier and requests deletion of associated server records and pending events. Offline withdrawal requests retry when you reconnect. Data already sent to Google or a request already in flight cannot be recalled by this browser control.
How long information is kept
Google Analytics cookies are set to last up to 180 days, without extending that period on each visit. Your browser may remove them sooner. New analytics cookies may be created on a later visit while analytics remains enabled. PostHog also saves browser and visit identifiers to support the analytics you allow.
We keep the analytics records that connect your visit to a purchase for no more than 180 days from when analytics was enabled in this browser, whether by your choice or the regional default, or remove them when we receive your withdrawal request. Records needed to deliver and support your order are kept separately, as explained in our Privacy policy.
Cookie expiry does not automatically delete information already received by Google or PostHog. These providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States. Their privacy policies explain how they handle and retain it. Contact support@amberportraits.com with questions or deletion requests.
Keeping the service working
Separately from optional analytics, we use PostHog to receive limited technical error reports from our systems so we can find and fix service failures. These reports do not include customer identities, photos, artwork, order numbers or the contents of your requests. This essential troubleshooting continues if you reject optional analytics.
Your choice, at any time
Choose Accept optional to enable analytics and advertising measurement, or Reject optional to turn both off. Cookie settings lets you choose them separately. You can also open Cookie settings, choose your preferences and select Save preferences. Outside the EEA, regional defaults may enable these tools before you make a choice. Closing settings without saving does not change the current settings.
Open Cookie settings from the footer whenever you want to change or withdraw your choice. Withdrawing stops new browser analytics, removes the analytics cookies and browser information we can clear, and asks our systems to delete the related analytics records and any activity waiting to be sent. If you are offline, we retry when you return online or reopen the site.
Changing your choice does not sign you out, delete your portraits or affect your orders. It does not remove information already sent to Google or PostHog; contact support@amberportraits.com for help with a privacy request.
Saved preferences expire after 180 days. If no valid choice remains, we apply the current regional defaults and show the consent prompt where optional cookies default to off. Updating this policy does not itself replace a choice you have saved.
Let’s make it clear.
